Visit of Prof. Eugene Surdutovich to MBN Research Center

May 08, 2018
Professor Eugene Surdutovich (Oakland University, Rochester, Michigan, USA) visited MBN Research Center. This visit took place within the project "Theoretical/computational study of energy and matter transport in media irradiated by swift ions". This joint project by Professor Eugene Surdutovich and Professor Andrey Solov’yov is funded by a Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG) grant to support the initiation of international collaboration.

During the visit of Professor Surdutovich, the new directions of development of the MultiScale Approach to the physics of ion beam therapy (MSA) have been discussed. The MSA is a physical phenomenon-based analysis of the multiscale scenario that leads to radiation damage under ion-beam irradiation. It allows consideration of all relevant effects on a variety of spatial, time, and energy scales and enables quantitative assessment of biological damage as a result of irradiation with ions.

There was also discussed the application of MBN Explorer and MBN Studio software to the problems related to transport of ion-induced reactive species [1].
