MBN Research Center develops the state-of-the-art software for advanced scientific research and computational modelling of molecular structure and dynamics of Meso-Bio-Nano (MBN) systems and takes efforts towards its wide distribution and exploitation.

MBN Research Center carries out a broad programme of frontier research based on the utilisation of its universal and powerful software. It maintains cooperation with a large number of partners worldwide, participates in collaborative research projects, organises thematic conferences.

MBN Research Center offers hands-on tutorials for the software users, training courses on application of the software in different areas of academic and industrial research, advanced interdisciplinary courses on MBN Science and related areas of theoretical and computational physics.

Meso-Bio-Nano Science: a novel area for interdisciplinary research

MBN Research Center aims at delivering a major breakthrough in the quantitative understanding of challenging interdisciplinary problems in the field of Meso-Bio-Nano (MBN) Science through (i) the implementation of modern theoretical and computational multiscale modelling methodologies and high performance computing, and (ii) exploiting this knowledge in numerous different applications, novel and emerging technologies.

The MBN Science is the interdisciplinary field of research studying structure-formation and dynamics of animate and inanimate matter on the nano- and the mesoscales. Any form of condensed matter, including biological, consists of numerous components linked by different interactions. Important efforts in deepening of the molecular level understanding of different forms of condensed matter and their dynamical behaviour concern the origin, nature and evolution of various complex molecular systems, as well as the emergence of new features, properties, processes and functions involving the systems with increasing their size and complexity. Research in this field bundles up several traditional topics in theoretical physics and chemistry at the interface with Life Sciences and Materials Research under a common theme. The range of open challenging scientific problems in this field is very broad. The list of challenging topics in the field grows rapidly facilitating also the development of relevant theoretical and computational methods.

In spite of a huge diversity of MBN systems the methodologies for their theoretical description and computer simulations are very similar. This observation hints towards the development of universal computational techniques applicable for modelling of all kinds of MBN systems.

In most of the application areas simulations need to operate over a wide range of scales, ranging from the molecular and the nanoscale to the micro and sometimes even to macro-dimensions in order to describe at the sufficient level of detail different multiscale physical and chemical phenomena. The development of multiscale modelling tools goes in parallel with the development of new theoretical methods and widening modern methods of high-performance computing.

These goals are pursued by the MBN Research Center through the development of powerful and universal software packages MBN Explorer and MBN Studio, see also MBN Explorer and MBN Studio flyers available for downloading below, as well as the book of MBN Explorer based case studies published by Springer.

MBN Explorer and MBN Studio form a unique computational complex for unravelling structure and dynamics of complex molecular systems of very different nature. They provide a wide range of possibilities for the computational studies of MBN systems and their properties. These computational possibilities and a broad spectrum of their applications are being explored by the MBN Research Center and its numerous partners and customers worldwide.

This picture gallery highlights the selected case studies that have been conducted by the MBN Research Center team with the use of MBN Explorer and MBN Studio. The results of these case studies have been published in high impact journals and reported at major international conferences. Images below are adapted from these publications. They illustrate numerous areas of application of the software such as computational modelling of solids, liquids, gases and plasmas; atomic and molecular clusters, nanoparticles; biomolecular systems; collisions and reactions; nanostructured, composite materials and materials interfaces; thermo-mechanical properties of materials and related multiscale phenomena.
