The third International Conference “Radiation Damage in Biomolecular Systems: Nanoscale Insights into Ion-Beam Cancer Therapy” (Nano-IBCT 2014) took place in Boppard, Germany during October 27-31, 2014. The conference brought together experts from different disciplines, such as physics, chemistry, biology, hadron-therapy centers, and medical institutions, specialized in the radiation damage of biological matter. The following topics were discussed during the meeting:
- Ion propagation in matter
- Primary ionization in the medium, direct damage and production of secondary electrons and radicals
- Propagation of secondary electrons and radicals
- Electron attack on DNA and proteins
- Radiobiological scale effects
- Hadrontherapy centers
- Related European projects
Nano-IBCT 2014 gathered more than one hundred scientists from 24 countries. The meeting was organized by MBN Research Center within the framework of COST Action MP1002 “Nano-scale insights into Ion Beam Cancer Therapy” with partial financial support by DFG.
